I have a great giveaway for you today. I was lucky enough to get a copy of Sean Cooper’s Burn Your Mortgage. While I no longer have a mortgage to worry about I did find this book to be a very useful guide to buying a house in Canada and paying it off faster than most.

Who is Sean Cooper?

Sean is a rare breed of people. Not only did he manage to pay off his mortgage at a ridiculously young age. He managed to do it in only 3 years.

That’s incredible!

Sean applied frugality and side hustling to earn enough to pay off his mortgage in record time. So when it comes to writing a book about burning your mortgage. Sean can talk the talk, because he has already walked the walk.

Here’s My Quick Thoughts on the Book.

This book is a great start for anyone who is looking to buy a house or improve their financial situation. It’s got a lot of good insights into paying off your mortgage quickly. Sean does a great job explaining the ins and outs of buying a house and the finances that surround it.

While this book is about burning your mortgage there is a bigger theme here. One that Sean and I share, it’s the goal of becoming financially free.

You see friends, all of this money talk is ultimately about getting a handle on your finances. For many of us it’s having the large goal of becoming financially independent (i.e. having enough passive income to cover your expenses) at some point in your life. For Sean, he sees himself owning a house as part of his financial freedom. I share this ideal. While owning your house outright isn’t necessary for financial independence, it is nice to not have the threat of a mortgage hanging over your head.

Who is this book for?

This book is really geared towards any and all people looking to get into the housing market and wanting to improve their financial situation. While getting into some of the hotter markets in Canada may seem ridiculous at the moment (I swear it looks more like a bad accident waiting to happen), there are a lot of other markets that you can still get into at reasonable prices.

So if you are looking for your first house and you want to get a handle on your finances Sean’s book would be a good place to start.
