The debt free scream is probably one of the most important things you can do when it comes to closing the door on the chapter of your life. For those of you who are new to this, it involves getting out of debt and then screaming at the top of your lungs “WE’RE DEBT FREE!!!!”

It’s a rite of passage for many people getting out of debt. An ending to their debt free journey.

What is the Debt Free Scream

Dave Ramsey created the debt free scream to encourage his listeners to come on his show and shout out to the world that they are officially debt free.

This is a rite of passage for a lot of people. If you follow Dave’s baby steps you will see that this is a huge milestone and getting to go to his studios is a pretty cool way to celebrate.

Why do a Debt Free Scream

The debt free scream is more about celebrating your accomplishments than it is about screaming in a recording studio.

Personally I hadn’t heard of Dave Ramsey until I was two months away from being debt free. So making a pilgrimage down to his studios made no sense to me whatsoever

It’s not that it’s a bad idea, but making a 1000 mile long trek for 3 seconds of screaming doesn’t make a lot of sense to me.

Other options for doing a Debt Free Scream

Personally that day I went to the bank and made the last payment on our mortgage was when I did my debt free scream.

I walked out of the bank, on a cold WInnipeg January day, raised my arms like Rocky after he beat Victor Drago and screamed out at the top of my lungs “WOOOHOOO!

It’s at this point I would formally like to apologize to the elderly woman who was turning the corner as I did this, I startled her pretty bad doing this. She was ok.

How to do a Debt Free Scream

If you want to make the trip to Dave Ramsey studios, good for you. Ain’t no shame in that. You’ve done the long walk of debt freedom and it’s worth it going there.

But if you would like to save yourself time and money, because you don’t really care if you make it on the radio, here’s what I propose.

When you hit debt freedom, put on your nicest clothes.

Go outside and scream “We’re DEBT FREE!!!!”

You need to do it.

It’s a big, no it’s a HUGE milestone and you need to celebrate it.

If you have a debt free story that you would like to share, reach out to me through our contact page. We are always happy to share peoples stories with others.

Because you have done something incredible, and it’s worth celebrating.
