Like many of us we are finding ourselves in a self imposed stay at home so that the health care professionals can get a jump on things. For most us a self imposed staying at home isn’t a health issue but more of a preventative one. Still being stuck at home can be a change and many will feel at a loss of things to do while you are stuck at home. Luckily there are things you can do if you find yourself in good health but at a loss for things to do. Here are some things you can do if you are stuck at home.

Binge Watch Tv Shows

There is no shortage of shows you can watch on Netflix but which ones are binge worthy? Chances are you have some in your Netflix list of ones you want to watch. Some highly binge-able shows are:

  • Breaking Bad
  • Sopranos
  • The Wire
  • Mad Men
  • Stranger Things
  • Schitts Creek (my fave)
  • It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia
  • The Crown
  • Shameless (not with the kids around (that goes for a few others, look at the IMDB parent guide before you watch)
  • Game of Thrones (it was good until the last season)
  • The Office
  • Parks and Recreation
  • Downton Abbey
  • Cheers
  • Seinfeld
  • Friends

No matter what your tastes are there is something for you. Pick one and start laughing or gasping (if that’s your thing, no judging here).

Have a Movie Marathon

If you prefer movies we live in the world of expanding universes when it comes to movies. Make some popcorn and watch a different movie every night. Here are some great ones to get started with:

Marvel Cinematic Universe

(it’s around 56 hours of watching) if you watch every movie from the past 10 years you will be all caught up for the Black Widow movie that comes out next month. The great part about all of these is that you can watch them over and over and see how things tie in from one movie to the last. By the time you get to Avengers Endgame there are so many call backs and references that you will be a pro at this.

Star Wars

With a few spinoffs and 3 trilogies you can watch for days. Plus if you get into the animated stuff on Disney + there are even more things you can watch.

Harry Potter

This wizard world is a fun ride that gets progressively darker each movie. We recently binged this over the past month and it’s been a lot of fun to watch it through our kids eyes.

Disney Movies

Get a Disney + membership and just go. Between all of the options you have you will be good for years with it.

Indiana Jones

These were some of the best movies growing up. Dust them off and enjoy them

Back to the Future

My personal favorite, time traveling Delorians, hover boards and the wild wild west. What else could you want. If you haven’t watched these in a while get them out (you know you have them on DVD somewhere) and watch them. Plus it’s a good laugh to see how they envisioned the 2010s back in the 80’s/

Learn to Cook Something New

Most nights are filled with quick meals and runs out the door to the next event for one or more of our family members. Now that this is done we are making a point of trying new recipes and enjoy the extra time to experiment with our food options. Go to Epicurious, search Pinterest or another site that you can find some new recipes. If you have never cooked before this is the time to start.

Get Caught up on Housework

Ok housework doesn’t scream as fun as the first couple of ideas. But Spring cleaning is still going to be a thing (use this free house cleaning checklist to get started), why not get a jump on it while you have the time.

Learn a New Language

I’ve been looking at Duolingo to start learning a new language, I’m thinking Spanish right now, but the best part is, it’s free to learn and you can do a little each day with the family.

Do your paperwork

If you run a small business (or large one) you likely have a mountain of paperwork piling up (I swear if I don’t look at it, it will just go away) take the time at home to get it done. You will feel so much better once it’s filed away.

Make Money From Home

There are plenty of ways to make money from home. You just need an internet connection and time (which you have now). So choked out this post on how to make money with no money to get your ideas flowing and start earning some extra cash! I would start with Swagbucks, it’s free to use and you get a $% bonus for signing up.

Learn Something New

I have been making the most of my Masterclass membership. This is great for learning new things. Personally there is nothing better than learning something new and being able to apply it right away. There is something for everyone in these Masterclasses, why not take the time to better yourself. If you want to learn more see my Masterclass Review here.

Listen to Some New Music

Sure you have your favorites like we all do. But there are tons of good new and old music out there that your ears have been yearning for (that’s right… yearning). Get your groove on (not sure if anyone says that anymore) and start listening to some good new music. If you have an Amazon Prime membership you get free music to listen to.

Start a blog

When people know what I do, there is inevitably a response of “Oh I have a great idea for a blog”, this is your chance to take advantage of this. Check out how to start a blog for more information. I’ll be starting a new one with my kids in the coming weeks as a way for them to learn a new skill (it’s really more than one skill, but it’s going to be fun for all of us).

Play games

We have been fans of games here are some of our favorites

Read a Book

There are so many great things you can read out there. Grab one off Amazon and take a trip into a new world. Personally I love the Dan Brown books. I can’t put them down and they read easily. If you are looking to more self improvement slant, Atomic Habits will change your life in a more positive way you can imagine.

Plan a future trip

So a stay-cation wasn’t in the plans. Many of us have had trips cancelled (we aren’t going to Disney World so I feel your pain). But that doesn’t mean you can’t plan your next trip. Use sites like HomeAway and other places to find and plan your next trip.

Enjoy Your Family

All year long it feels like we never have enough family time. To go from one extreme to the other can be a bit of a shock. It’s important to know that with all the uncertainty in the world right now, our children need us. Make time with your children your number one focus. That’s what we will be doing, because in the end, family and our shared experiences are what matter most.
